OBS Comprehensive Questionnaires
Enrolled pregnant individuals complete three questionnaires using the Research Electronic Data Capture platform (REDCap). The questionnaires are sent at 12-20 and 26-32 weeks gestation and 6-10 weeks postpartum. A table of items collected within each Lifestyle Questionnaire can be found below.
OBS Clinical Data Abstraction
OBS participants allow the abstraction of medical data from their clinical records for antenatal care, delivery and neonatal follow-up.
OBS Biospecimen Collection
OBS participants generously provide biospecimens to allow researchers to investigate biomarkers during their pregnancy. Maternal blood samples are taken at 11-14 weeks gestational age (GA), 15-20 weeks GA, 24-28 weeks GA and at delivery, with child blood spot cards collected 24 hours after birth alongside the provincial screening blood spots.
OBS Diet History Questionnaire
The web-based Canadian Diet History Questionnaire II (DHQ) is a food frequency questionnaire that queries the participant’s diet over the past month, including information on portion sizes. The daily nutrient intake (including total calories, macronutrients, micronutrients, and intake from supplements) is derived using Diet*Calc software.
OBS Kids Data Collection Structure
OBS Kids continues follow-up with those who participated in OBS after giving birth. Interviews are conducted at 8 months, 24 months, 36 months, and 4.5 years either via telephone or home visits (at 24 months and 4.5 years), when permitted. The OBS Kids data collection structure can be found below.
